From Apiaries to Astronomy and points in between . . .
Are you amazed what we can do with our technology? We can buy and download an ebook while in a car on a road trip, without stopping at a bookstore.
Are you frustrated whenever you get a new phone, trying to learn all of its new features? Ever wonder if it’s like our brains, and we only use about 10% of our phone’s capabilities?
Trials By Technology is a newsletter which explores people struggling with technology and science. I’m Geoff Mantooth, a former electrical engineer, former intellectual property attorney who wrote and obtained hundreds of patents on inventions over numerous fields of human endeavor. Curiosity is key to this publication—how does something work, why something is the way it is, and oops, didn’t think that would happen. For example, who could have predicted that fast internet and smart phones, with all their convenience and capabilities (for example, buying a book inside a car on a road trip) would lead to North Korean hackers texting us constantly in phishing operations?
This is a companion publication to Trials By Writing, which explores compelling stories about people, with a less technical bent.
A newsletter will publish about once a month, give or take. I’m writing books which contain some tech and carry the same theme—people having a bit of trouble.
Key to Trials By Technology is feedback in the comments, by hitting the like button “❤️”. Information about technology and science is best when shared. So go ahead and comment, preserve your thoughts for future readers. Let me (and everyone) know if there are any topics worth considering.
I think one day I’ll enable paid subscriptions, but for now it’s free.
All the Best,
Geoff
